Daily Echo Review - Iolanthe 2011

Director David Tatnall pulled together a team of considerable talent from local societies for this company's innagural show, with Gilbert and Sullivan's script given a satirical update that cast and audience enjoyed equally.

Lisa Axworthy was a confident lead as Iolanthe, banished after marrying a mortal, but recalled after the fairies pleaded with the Fairy Queen (the feisty Anne Croudass) who, herself, came to appreciate the attraction of mortal man (Tatnall as Private Willis).

Adrian Hickford turned in a stellar performance as the teddy-cuddling Lord Chancellor, with Matt Sturgeon as hilarious Boris Johnson-parody Lord Mountararat. Annie Masters (Phyllis) and Tim Case (Strephon) were confident performers along with Katherine Evans, who enhanced her growing reputation as Celia.

Vicky Wilson, Natalie Thorn, Alina Feodorova (fairies) and Daniel Hickson and Shaun Dodimead (Lords Tolloller and Bath) all derserve a mention and Hilary Green led first-rate musical accompaniment to this entertaining evening.
